Resurrection Poem: Easter 2000

An atheist discredited:
how else to explain
my lover's emerging from
vodka drowning death
dry and touch-of-flesh alive
with my hands   mouth
trying to disprove
and unable..
death we agreed on
signed invisible certificates,
an illegal widow I went out
in my gypsy clothes
wandering thru cities   a nomad
flinging out magic tokens   mantras
disguised as poems to
lure you back
burying you with those same words
before strangers who applauded:
once I conjured you back
in another man   believed in my own magic
till his lips   hands
wrote nothing on my body
in such precise braille  nothing
his curious stranger's eyes trying
to figure out what...nothing
it was nothing;
thought my mind was getting even
when intimations of your life
began teasing me on a computer screen
just as my five years of mourning ended;
but when you broke down virtual barriers
lifted me in your arms
through beaded curtains
carried me to bed
as if no time at all had passed
I knew   in real time
it hadn't
